Event Recap: Protecting Yourself from Cybercrime

Strategic Wealth Partners recently hosted a panel discussion on how you can protect yourself from cybercrime. The panel, moderated by Tom Buhrmann, Wealth Advisor, featured Adam Moseley, Managing Director at Charles Schwab Advisory Services and Lindsay Pflug, Manager of Training & Process Development. The panel fielded questions from the audience and shared tips and tricks on how to protect yourself online.

While a myriad of topics were covered, a primary point of discussion was email phishing attempts. “If you think an email is suspicious and you don’t recognize the sender, it is best to delete it and not click on any links,” Moseley said. Pflug added, “Even if the email is from a sender you recognize, such as your bank, you should never click on a link in it to login to your account. Instead, search using your browser and go to the institution’s main website and enter your credentials there”.

With October being National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM), we’d like to remind you that your privacy is important to us! You can read about how we protect your information here. Additionally, you can read about some of the ways you can protect yourself here.

We will be hosting a similar event again on cybercrime and awareness on October 24 from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. near our Milwaukee office. Please contact us if you are interested in attending.

How the Illinois State Estate Tax Works
In the world of financial planning, the federal estate tax tends to get a lot of press, but what often surprises some clients (and will impact more of them) is that states themselves also have their own estate or inheritance taxes. For clarity, an estate tax is levied and paid by the estate of the deceased, while an inheritance tax is paid by the heirs receiving the inherited property (with spouses generally exempt).

Nurturing Wealth Across Generations: A Guide to Multi-Generational Wealth Planning
Often referred to as the “Great Wealth Transfer,” studies show that roughly $84 trillion in assets amassed by baby boomers will change hands over the next 20 years. This trend looks to continue in the years to come for many wealthy families (not just billionaires).
