TEAM

Meet your financial specialists.

Neal Price, CPA, CFA®, CFP®

Principal & Co-Founder

Neal has been advising clients on the stewardship of their wealth and other financial needs since 1988. Prior to founding SWP in 2008, he was a Senior Managing Director with Mesirow Financial.  Earlier in his career, Neal was with Kemper Securities (now Wells Fargo) and Arthur Andersen.

With the evolution of a confusing marketplace and complex industry, Neal is energized by helping clients sort through the facts and the misinformation they encounter when seeking to achieve their financial goals. Whether his client is worried about not having enough through retirement or concerned about losing family values by having too much wealth, Neal feels a serious responsibility to fulfill each client’s unique objectives. As Neal has been working with some of his clients for decades, he finds deep gratification from seeing planning unfold that was done many years ago.

The feeling of helping to make a difference in others’ lives is what drives Neal to be a loyal advocate of his clients and a leader in the community. Neal has enjoyed coaching youth baseball, mentoring college students, and has been involved with a variety of not-for-profit organizations for over 30 years.  Currently, Neal spends a significant amount of his time mentoring and developing the skills of SWP’s next generations of advisors and staff.

A native Chicagoan, Neal still lives in Chicago’s Northern Suburbs with his wife, Laurie.  He is the proud dad of two grown sons, both of whom followed in the family’s proud Illini tradition. In his free time, Neal especially enjoys travel, golf, and spending time in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Looking Back, Looking Forward
Over the next month or so, we’ll all be bombarded by a variety of investment professionals’ recaps of the economic and market landscape.  Big firms, small firms, banks, brokers, economists, investment advisors and others all have their spin on what happened during 2022.  At SWP, we don’t often provide general market commentary; typically, we only comment on specific and unusual events that may cause investors to consider changing their plan. Put another way, we like to share thoughts on things that really matter to our clients and tune out the noise.

Should I Stay or Should I Go?
There’s no sugarcoating it; the current state of the markets has many of our clients thinking like the 1981 punk rock classic by The Clash: Should I stay or should I go now? If I go, there will be trouble And if I stay it will be double So come on and let me know Should I stay or should I go?* I don’t suspect that the song was meant as a commentary on portfolio management strategies. (In fact, the band has never disclosed any real meaning to the lyrics.)  Nonetheless, I do think it provides an appropriate framework for examining today’s investment world. So, let’s take a look at the cases for “going” and for “staying.”
